How to Pay Your Taxes Online
The IRS is phasing out check payments over the next few years.
Here’s how to make an online payment for both Federal and State of Colorado:
Federal – Paying the IRS Online
Option 1: Pay Using IRS Direct Pay (No Fee)1. Go to: https://www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay-with-bank-account
2. Click “Make a Payment.”
3. Choose your payment reason (e.g., Balance Due, Estimated Tax) and the correct tax year.
4. Verify your identity using a prior year tax return.
5. Enter your bank account details and submit your payment.
6. Print or save your payment confirmation – for your tax preparer and your records.
Option 2: Pay by Debit or Credit Card (Fees Apply)1. Go to: https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-your-taxes-by-debit-or-credit-card
2. Choose one of the IRS-approved processors.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to make your payment.
4. Print or save your payment confirmation – for your tax preparer and your records
Option 3: Use an IRS Online Account1. Go to: https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals
2. Sign in or create an ID.me account.
3. View balances, schedule payments, or check your payment history.

State – Paying the Colorado Department of Revenue
Option 1: Pay Through Revenue Online (No Login Needed)1. Go to www.colorado.gov/revenueonline
2. Click “Make a Payment.”
3. Select “Individual Income Tax.”
4. Choose “Return Payment” (balance due) or “Estimated Payment.”
5. Enter your SSN and last name.
6. Enter your payment details and submit.
7. Print or save your payment confirmation – for your tax preparer and your records
Option 2: Pay Through a Revenue Online Account1. Go to: www.colorado.gov/revenueonline
2. Choose “Make a Payment” from the dashboard.
3. Follow the prompts and print or save your payment confirmation – for your tax preparer and your records.
Option 3: Mail a Check (If Preferred)1. Make the check payable to: Colorado Department of Revenue
2. Include your full name, SSN, and tax year in the memo of your check.
3. Mail your voucher and check to:

Important Tips:
Always make payments directly through official government websites (IRS.gov or Colorado.gov).
Keep your confirmation or receipt for your records and provide it to your tax preparer.
ACH payments (from checking or savings) do not have processing fees, while card payments may incur small service fees.
